The Madhya Pradesh High Court in an attempt to tackle a large number of pending cases before it, has increased its working hours by 30 minutes.
Towards this end, the full court of the MP High Court amended the High Court of Madhya Pradesh Rules 2008.
Earlier, the working hours of the Court were 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM for recess. After the amendment, the High Court will work from 10:15 AM to 4:30 PM, with 1:30 PM to 2:15 PM for recess.
These amendments were published in the Madhya Pradesh Official Gazette and shall come into force from January 3, 2022, Monday.
On November 22, 2021, the Madhya Pradesh High Court Bar Association (MPHCBA) had unanimously passed a resolution to increase court working hours by 30 minutes that will effectively add 19 additional working days to its annual calendar.
The resolution had stated, “In the General Body meeting of the MP High Court Bar Association held on Monday November 22, 2021, the issue regarding increasing court working hours was discussed and it has been unanimously resolved that court working hours may be increased by half an hour from 10.15 am in place of 10.30 am and from 2.15 pm in place of 2.30 pm thus increasing annual working of the High Court from 210 to 229 days.”
